Tips On Cutting Plexiglass

Due to its flexibility and affordability, plexiglass is now commonly used in industrial structures and at the same time in all walks of architectural frames. It is also proven to be resistant to pressure that makes it more flexible compared to glass. Plexiglass proves to be easier to handle and more manageable to install.


Here are some tips on cutting plexiglass:

1. Before cutting plexiglass, you need to have your tools ready. Here are some of the tools that are needed: sandpaper with fine grains, a round shape saw with several teeth, goggles, a tape measure, a power saw for finer cutting.

2. Before you cut some plexiglass, make sure to wear goggles to protect your eyes from fine particles thrown off while cutting the plexiglass.

3. Always see to it that your saw blades have a large number of teeth to make cutting more efficient. The efficiency of a saw is measured by the number of teeth as it will make cutting finer and more effective. You have to remember that you are not just cutting some ordinary piece of wood but a hard piece of acrylic plexiglass.

4. Another thing to consider is the thickness of the saw blade. Always choose saw blades which are thicker. As the cutting progresses, so does the heating of the saw blades. This would eventually break the blade in the long run. For you not to be interrupted by this unnecessary breakage, you need to choose thicker blades for a smooth cutting of the plexiglass.

5. Measure the cut lengths using a good tape measure. You can also use some marking pens to mark those areas that will be cut. For a more complicated design, a pattern can also be placed on the plexiglass to be cut.

6. The direction of the cutting strokes should be downward. This will make it easier for the saw to break the sheet and at the same time working the gravities advantage.

7. After the cutting, rub some sand paper on the edges to smooth them.

A fine cut of plexiglass is worth the effort especially when realizing a certain design. However, cutting plexiglass is not as easy as one might think. It needs some consideration before doing the work. At the same time proper instruments are extremely important to get the perfect cut.
